The Virtue of Sleep

My brother slid in, a hollow ghost,
propelled only by amphetamines and whiskey.
With a long sigh,
his slender arm found the bottle of hydrozin on the kitchen counter.

How long had he been up?
More hours than he cared to remember,
or at least more than he was prepared to count.
